Ephesians 2: 8-9 NIV
Amazing Grace. I am always in awe of how likely I am to still believe that I can will my way into God’s good graces. Perhaps, I might slip into the old – if I just do one more thing – as if God is some disapproving and hard to please parent.
I can quickly get into the checklist mentality and thankfully, scripture, like today, reminds me that it is nothing I do that saves me or makes God love me anymore. Instead, as Paul’s letter to the Ephesians reminds us today, it is completely and wholly through our Faith in Jesus Christ.
Do you get into checklist mode, ever?
Perhaps you don’t tally your good works up like a honeydo list but perhaps you do so in comparison to others.
Perhaps you see others, while significantly less pious than you, having better luck or success.
Have you ever thought to yourself – “Well, I do way more than that guy/gal over there and yet they seem to always to get all the luck!”
Paul is careful to remind us in his letter to the Ephesians that faith isn’t a competition. When it comes to love from God there are no haves and have nots – only those who have faith and those who do not.
I don’t know about you, but am I ever thankful that it isn’t up to me for my salvation.
I am also doubly thankful that other people’s salvation is also not up to me but instead to our creator.
I hope you have been able to see glimpses this week of God’s unending, unwavering, and unapologetic love for you. I hope you have felt God’s grace comforting you and assuring you this week and every day.
I pray that you continue to feel God’s Amazing Grace in your life as well as see it in the lives of those you encounter.
Pray: Heavenly Father, open our hearts and our minds to the ways you renew us each day, the ways you inspire in us holiness and goodness. Keep our hearts from creating checklists for the good and the bad we and others do. Let us focus our gaze only toward you and your grace, love, and mercy. Amen.

Act: Do something generous for a stranger today. Pay for the car behind you in the drive through or coffee for the person behind you. Mow your neighbors yard even though they frustrate you. Wave someone through at the 4 way, EVEN THOUGH you were there first. The world is your oyster this week.
Yourself: Go to bed as early as you can each night this week. Chances are you aren’t getting enough sleep and you deserve to be well rested. Life (work, family, finances, etc) can be difficult enough already with the multitude of challenges and struggles but much more so when you haven’t gotten enough rest. Take care of yourself with rest each night.
