“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”
I am a light guy. Recently my in laws and I were discussing how I like to have lights on when I am inside-more so when the sun is going down and it’s that in between time when the sun is setting but has yet to do so. Some people feel perfectly comfortable sitting in that waning light while I like to have a lamp or light on.
As a result, I have every kind of headlamp, flashlight, candles, lanterns-you name it. One flashlight I have is an industrial law enforcement mag light that I’ve had for many years. It is about as long as the part of my arm from the elbow to fingertips and weighs about 5 pounds I would guess-I use it when I am sent to investigate those things that go bump in the night. One night I heard such a rustling outside so I grabbed my trusty dusty mag light and set out to discover its origins. That Maglite perfectly lit my path to the fence gate where I heard the rustling occurring on the other side-I quietly raised it up as I slowly opened the gate. On the other side of the gate was a police officer with his own mag lite and hand on his holster. I told him apologetically, “I almost hit you with my Maglite”. That’s ok, he said. “I almost shot you”.
I try to spend time in prayer as well as scripture every day-truth be told; some days I am better at it than others. God’s word does such a great job of guiding my every step.
Maybe you are going through struggle this week-maybe you are still looking for a job, still facing financial difficulties, spiritual struggles and doubt, illness, or any other number of difficulties. It can often be difficult to know what the future includes, let alone even the next steps. I invite you, if you aren’t already, let the word of God guide you like a lamp for your feet and a light for your path.
We will always be amazed at how much more we see with God lighting the way-and how much we miss when we try to do it on our own.
