Lamentations 3: 22-23
“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness!”
Think about these verses for a second. Let these verses settle deep into your spirit.
Are you holding onto unforgiveness? Are you holding on to bitterness and anger towards someone? Are you sitting with frustration over differing ideas of right and wrong from everyone else around you?
Imagine for a moment if God held on to unforgiveness for things you have said, done, thought, hoped for…or bitterness or anger for all those things?
What if God treated US with frustration whenever we pursued what we thought was right only to be found misguided by our ambitions or desires?
Our scripture today reminds us that God’s compassions never fail.
Our scripture today reminds us that they are renewed each and every morning. What WAS is not what HAS TO BE!
Scripture reminds us that we are created in the image of God and yet so often fail to see that divine spark inside ourselves. We only see the image that stares back at us in a 2 dimensional reflection. We also fail to see it on others we dislike, disagree with, or even despise. It is what resides deep inside us that should truly reflect the divine.
We live in difficult times but not impossible times.
While we change and ebb and flow with the culture and the attitudes of the persuasive logic; we serve a God who never waivers. We serve a God for whom Love is unconditional and unrelenting.
It can seem weird in our context to imagine a God who loves the inmate as much as the preacher, an addict as much as the doctor, a prostitute as much as the president. Our scripture reminds us that great are his faithfulness and never do his compassions fail. We are all loved and we are all beloved.
I pray you begin to feel God’s compassion and unrelenting love flow through you and in you. If you have been feeling challenged and disconnected, I pray you begin to feel God’s presence in your everyday life and in those difficult relationships and circumstances. Remember life is a gift: WE DON’T HAVE TO; WE GET TO. May you not only experience God’s fullness in your life but may you also begin to see the fullness of God in those around you as well-including those you disagree with.
